Today ended up essentially being a rest day at Murchison House Station. Helen and Pete packed early and left to head north and Carol and Ian left to spend the day in nearby Kalbarri. We took advantage of what was on offer at the property which was a self guided tour of the homestead. The main stock on hand near the homestead were goats and alpacas. Goat meat apparently is exported to the United States and forms a very valuable part of the Station's output. There is a small room near the homestead that has newspaper articles detailing the lives of some of the more interesting previous owners. Moving toward the back the property is littered with defunct and decaying military vehicles and farm vehicles dating back many years. Also of interest was a small cemetery where lie the bodies of two aviators killed when one of the first commercial aviation services around this area crashed on the property. Buried nearby is one of the former owners of Murchison House Station a Mr Ogilvie who drowned in somewhat mysterious circumstances apparently. Then it was back to the homestead garden for tea and delicious blueberry muffins which were included in the price. Lastly we had a look inside the old shearing sheds before heading back to our motor-home. Later that day, after a barbecue dinner, we again sat around the open fire with Carol and Ian and were then joined by our neighbours Goran and Maren and their two children. A very pleasant evening of conversation and wine.
