Day 7 - Haslam to Penong - Monday 15th May 2017

Quite a windy morning today. After a quick breakfast of boiled eggs and toast we went for another short walk out along the jetty before getting ready to head off. Next stop was Ceduna where we stopped and had a big shopping expedition reasoning that there are zero supermarkets across the Nullarbor - not expecting anything other than roadhouses until we reach Norseman in Western Australia. With the benefit of hindsight this turned out to be a poor decision at least as far as fresh fruit and vegetables are concerned. We had overlooked the fact that Western Australia has very stringent controls on what is brought into the state and this is policed at a checkpoint at Border Village. Anyway we arrived at Penong and went straight to the only caravan park in this small town. It was a lovely little caravan park and even had rebroadcast television on analogue channels as well as spotlessly clean facilities. No Optus coverage though and hence no phone or internet service. The town boasts a small park with seemingly one of every type of windmill there is. Of course we stopped and had a quick look at this. Two of our fellow campers, Gunter and Marion from Germany, were having difficulties with their rented van's lighting circuit so we loaned them our LED lantern for the night. Sue spent part of the evening cooking up masses of potatoes and turning them into a potato salad so that we wouldn't have to dump them at the WA border - cooked vegetables are OK it seems.
